Have a hankering for an agricultural adventure or an afternoon of berry picking? a tour of any one of lanaudière’s country Roads circuits is sure to delight epicures and nature lovers alike.
As the last of the town disappears in the rear-view mirror, suddenly you are surrounded by fields of gold… gold as the wheat stalks dancing in the breeze, green as the bonsai at the Bonsaï Gros Bec interpretation centre in Saint-Alphonse- Rodriguez, orange as the pumpkins at La Courgerie in Sainte-Élisabeth, red as the strawberries at Ferme Guy Rivest in Rawdon. Organic wine drinkers will fall for the Saint-Gabriel vineyards, while olive oil aficionados will love the award-winning “La Belle Excuse” from Oliveraies Stavropoulos in Saint-Liguori. And how about something to eat along the way? La Bergerie des Neiges in Saint-Ambroise- de-Kildare is well stocked with picnic hampers, full to bursting with terrines and lamb sausages. Then it’s off to Terre des Bisons in Rawdon to meet Buffy the Buffalo, as tame as you like. And in the evening, a country-style meal down on the farm at Domaine des Trois Gourmands in Saint-Alexis is the perfect end to any trip, before hitting the hay in a cozy B&B or charming country inn. The region is bursting with gems to discover, such as roadside stands, regional cuisine, garden tours, and the great outdoors—plus the chance to marvel at the inspired and very inspiring work of local farmers.
Six roads, six adventures
Each Country Roads circuit explores a different path and caters to a different set of interests. Berry lovers can get their fill at the u-pick farms nestled among the region’s verdant valleys, while 100-mile enthusiasts can savour local cheese, wine, and deli meats as they wind and wend across the plain.
