The Fur Trade in Mauricie: Second Nature

The fur trade is Canada’s oldest economic activity, and long ago in Mauricie it was an important part of the lives of woodsmen known as coureurs des bois. A tour of the Centre d’interprétation de la traite des fourrures, simulating the bustling activity of a trading post, has visitors returning to this bygone era. From May to late October, the centre’s guide/storytellers provide an engaging peek behind the scenes of the fur industry. Afterwards, a hike along the trails that criss-cross the Parc des chutes de la Petite rivière Bostonnais is even more memorable, knowing that one is walking where woodsmen used to tread.
